of the Museum Week 2009
held at the
Goa
State
Museum
from 5th to 9th January, 2009.
The Museum Week
2009, was inaugurated on Monday 5th January, 2009, by Shri. Ramakrishna
Dhavlikar, Minister for Transport. He also inaugurated the exhibition,
‘Sanguem Darshan’, and the newly set up Auditorium. The Secretary of
Museum presided over the function.
On 6th January,
2009, in the morning a film show was arranged for the students. In the
afternoon a lecture was delivered by Shri. Dinesh Manerikar on ‘Sangue
Gavachi Devala ani Utsav’.
On 7th January,
2009, screening of documentary was held in the morning and in the afternoon a
lecture on ‘Badalte Gao, Badalti Paristiti’ was delivered by Shri.
Rajendra Dessai.
On 8th January,
2009, in the morning, a documentary was shown to the students and in the
evening Dr. Sangita Sonak delivered a lecture on ‘Impact of Mining on
Ecology’.
On 9th January,
2009, a painting competition was held in the morning in which 97 students from
50 schools participated.
A valedictory
function was held in the evening and the prizes for the Essay Competition and
Painting Competition were distributed by the Chief Guest, Shri. Bhaskar Nayak,
Director of Higher Education.
The Museum Week
received a good response from the public including different schools from all
over
Goa
and the purpose of creating awareness of heritage and to popularize the Museum
was fulfilled to a great extent.
Report of the Museum Week 2008
Pictorial exhibition
Goa State Museum had organized a pictorial exhibition in collaboration with Indian Council of Historical Research on the revolt of 1857 titled ‘Representation of 1857.’ This exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Digambar Kamat on 19th February 2008. The Secretary of Museum presided over the function. Dr. Pratima Kamat gave an introduction on the revolt. Exhibition was on view from 19th to 29th February 2008. The programmes held during this period were:
On 25th February 2008 – There was a panel discussion by Goan Freedom Fighters – ‘Ashe Ladle Ami’ at 4.00 p.m. The Freedom Fighters – Shri Prabhakar Sinari, Shri Narayan Naik, Shri Nagesh Karmali and Smt. Sharada Sawaikar shared their memories with the audience.
On 27th February, 2008 – Quiz Competition was held at 10.00 a.m. for Higher Secondary students on India’s Freedom Struggle for Independence (1857 – 1947). 20 teams from various parts of Goa participated in the competition. Dr. Nandkumar Kamat, the Chief Guest for this function gave away the certificates and prizes to the students.
On 29th February, 2008 – A lecture on ‘Interpretation of the revolt on 1857’ was delivered by Dr. Shyam Bhat, reader in the History Dept. of Goa University at 3.30 p.m.
This exhibition received a good response from the people of all walks of life.

Museum Week 2008 -held at the Goa State Museum
from 7th to 11th January,
2008
Inauguration of Museum Week 2008 was done by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Goa University Dr. D.N. Deobagkar. He also inaugurated the exhibition on ‘Sattari Darshan’ organized in collaboration with Swami Vivekanand Itihas Samshodhan Mandal, Goa. The Secretary of Museum presided over the function.
On 8th January, 2008 in the morning a film show was arranged for the public and in the afternoon Shri Rajendra Kerkar delivered a lecture on ‘Introduction to Sattari’.
On 9th January, 2008, a documentary was shown to the public and in the afternoon a lecture on ‘Sattaritlo Lokved – Ek Samajdarshan’ was delivered by Shri Prakash Paryekar. It was followed by Lok-Kala Performance by Ghadvansh Lokmand of Keri-Sattari.
On 10th morning film on Devrai was screened and in the afternoon was held a lecture on ‘Maritime Mahishasuramardini of Mhadei’ by Dr. Pratima Kamat.
On 11th January, 2008, a painting competition was organized in the morning for the school students of Goa. More than hundred schools participated in the competition.
A valedictory function was held on 11-01-08, evening and prizes for the Essay Competition, painting competition and photography competition were distributed by the Chief Guest, Dr. A.G. Untawale, Chairperson W.W.F., India, Goa Region.
The Museum Week received a good response from public, schools and students and purpose of creating awareness of heritage and to popularize the Museum is fulfilled to a great extent.
